As we all know, Taylor Swift has been very busy sticking it to Scooter Braun by releasing re-recorded versions of all her old songs. Taylor just released a previously unreleased song that she wrote way back in 2008, about a shady boy who did her dirty. For those keeping score at home, 2008 is around the time she had broken up with Joe Jonas. And it’s pretty clear that if her new/old song isn’t about Joe, at the very least, it’s about one of her exes from a decade and a half ago. So naturally, the internet has been trying to guess which ex-boyfriend Taylor is singing dirty about (yes I just had to ask myself what year it is). Sophie Turner, who just so happens to be Joe Jonas’ wife, decided to get involved, and kind of implied that it’s about Joe.
This new song, which is actually an old song, will appear on the re-issue of Fearless, aka the album where Taylor gives off Disney princess vibes. The new Fearless will have 26 songs, six of which are brand new (or, technically, old, but just never saw the light of day), and the one in question here is called “Mr. Perfectly Fine.” It’s very Fearless-era Taylor, with her getting a little shady over a guy who broke her heart and proved his heart was made of pure ice by moving on from her quickly. Here’s the lyric video, so you can hear and see for yourself:
According to Us Weekly, the Swifties wasted no time in trying to figure out who Mr. Perfectly Fine is. They think there’s a clue when Taylor sings: “But that was when I got to know Mr. Change of heart.” Back in 2008, Taylor appeared on Ellen to discuss her breakup with Joe Jonas, and Taylor accused Joe of breaking up with her on a 25-second phone call. Joe took to MySpace (that alone should tell you how ancient this gossip is), to clear his name, and argue that sometimes people in relationships have a “change of heart.”
However, some other fans think the material for “Mr. Perfectly Fine” could have been ripped straight from Taylor’s diary pages after she broke up with Jake Gyllenhaal. Some have noticed that Taylor sings: “Hello Mr. Casually cruel,” and that the accusation of being “casually cruel” was also used in her 2012 song “All Too Well,” which fans believe was written about Jake. Except the timeline doesn’t really add up, because Taylor dated Jake in 2010, and “Mr. Perfectly Fine” was reportedly written in 2008. So it’s probably about Joe Jonas. And there’s probably a Netflix series that’s trying really, really hard not to make a joke about Taylor’s ex-boyfriends right now.
But if you ask Sophie Turner about any of this, she recently made it known that she’s kind of into the song. Not long after Taylor dropped “Mr. Perfectly fine,” Sophie mentioned the song in her Instagram Stories, saying, “It’s not NOT a bop.” And as you can see, Taylor was thrilled by the shout-out.

Things are currently good between Taylor and the Jonas-Turners. When Joe and Sophie welcomed their baby girl last year, Taylor reportedly sent them a baby blanket.
All signs point to yes, this song is about Joe Jonas. And clearly, his wife doesn’t care, and Joe probably doesn’t care, because he dated Taylor back when flared jeans and pointy kitten heels were still in fashion. Meanwhile, Ellen DeGeneres is probably happily dancing along to “Mr. Perfectly Fine” today. Because this whole situation started years ago on Ellen, and usually gossip about accusations and drama unfolding on her show doesn’t end nearly this well.
