Here’s a tonic for the weary soul — Dance crew WAFFLE NYC dancing on a subway train to Lose Control by Missy Elliot. It has been so long since I felt anything close to jubilation, it took me almost a full minute into this 2 and half minute video to recognize the feeling. This is fine because that gave me a great excuse to go back and watch it five more times. But it’s things like this that make me realize ways in which this pandemic has got me twisted!
Here, you try it!

Pandemic panic is hard to let go of. First, my brain had to process what I was seeing — a dance crew on a subway car. Then it had to COVID-date the scene — They’re wearing masks (for the most part) so it must be current. Then I had to let go of a lot of the RED FLAGS my brain has built up over the past year — the whole time my mind was screaming “don’t touch that pole!”, “oh shit, you gotta throw that lip balm out now,” “Jesus Christ his mask is slipping! They’re all gonna die!!!” But they’re not. They’re gonna be fine. As long as they wash their hands immediately!
